A Place At the Table - feasting at the theological banquet. Chinooks Winds Regional Council, The United Church of Canada. May 5-8, 2022

The Chinook Winds Regional Council annual meeting took place May 5-8, 2022 with the theme, A Place at the Table: Feasting at the Theological Banquet. It was both in-person at Gaetz Memorial United Church in Red Deer, AB and online.

Children and youth programming happened alongside through First Third Ministry (see below). The meeting began the evening of Thursday, May 5 and wrapped up with worship on Sunday morning, May 8, 2022.

Thank you to the many volunteers involved in planning local arrangements, theme sessions and worship.

COVID-19 Protocols: We encouraged those attending in person to be fully vaccinated and request that participants wear masks throughout the meeting. KN95 masks were available to participants at the meeting.

Theme Speaker: Rev. Janet Gear

Our theme speaker was Rev. Janet Gear whose research on Hosting the Theological Banquet will be published in June 2022. Her Theological Banquet helps foster language, identity and understanding in our communities of faith. She’s identified five different ways that United Church people tend to express their understanding of God and serving God.

Janet previously served as Vancouver School of Theology’s Professor of Pastoral Theology and is currently the Program Coordinator for Ministry Vocation for the United Church’s Office of Vocation Pastoral Relationship Team.

Sunday Morning Worship

May 8, 2022

The Sunday morning Worship Service took place at Gaetz Memorial United Church, Red Deer at 10 am on May 8, 2022. The Worship Service was live-streamed and the recording is below.  One member of the Regional Council will be commissioned and another will be ordained.

Our Guest Preacher was Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne. She is a member of the Heiltsuk First Nation and the executive director of Vancouver’s First United Community Ministry Society. Carmen is also a nominee for United Church Moderator.

Children & Youth @ Regional Council

Chinook Winds Region First Third Ministry provided a full In-Person Children and Youth program at the 2022 Regional Gathering.

Children and Youth explored the Annual Meeting theme through play, crafts and games, with intergenerational worship and song during the Regional Gathering.  Check out more details and how to register here

The Chinook Winds Regional Council's Celebration of Ministry Service 2022 took place at Gaetz Memorial United Church, Red Deer on May 8, 2022. Guest Preacher was the Rev. Dr Carmen Lansdowne,who is now the United Church's Moderator. Carmen is a member of the Heiltsuk First Nation.
