The BESTogether Leadership Team (Big Valley, Erskine, and Stettler United Churches) in partnership with Stettler Resources and Referral Center hosted the “Caring Together, Healthy Together” Seniors’ Conference in the Stettler United Church, earlier this spring.
There were 78 registered participants and six drop-ins who attended a wide variety of interest sessions throughout the day facilitated by well-qualified senior instructors. Topics included raised bed gardening, fitness for seniors, cooking for 1 or 2 people, chair yoga, beginner ukelele, wills and estate planning, library resources, basic computer training, learning to play bridge, greeting-card making, pencil sketching, genealogy, crocheting, knitting, and hymn sing/faith for wellbeing.
Several non-profits including FCSS, Stettler Learning Council, Stettler Recreation and Leisure, and Stettler Library helped with advertising. Stettler United Church posted it on the church website and Facebook page and posters went up in over 30 locations around town.
Participants and facilitators agreed that the day was a resounding success and would like to see more like it.
