It was with great sadness that many of us learned this week that Rev. Dr Garth Mundle died in Ottawa on Monday, January 28. He had a stroke two weeks earlier.

Garth is a former principal of St. Stephen’s College in Edmonton and also offered his energetic leadership in many congregations throughout Alberta.

Garth’s family wrote on Facebook: “Our family has been able to be by his side on this end-of-life journey and to ensure that he left this world as he desired, allowing nature to take its course. We will deeply miss Garth – his vibrant, inquisitive approach to life and his generous and adventurous spirit which touched so many people in his life journey. Fittingly the night before falling ill he had attended a lecture on politics and religion.”

For the past ten years, Garth and his spouse, Dorothy Naylor, lived in Ottawa and active at First United Church. These words came from First United, Ottawa: “Garth has been an integral part of our congregational life for more than 10 years animating our faith with his own vibrant faith that was characterized by humour, a passionate justice-seeking manner, love of dance and music, theological exploration and acumen especially in quantum physics application, and a willingness to always ‘colour outside the lines.’  Garth’s spirited ways will continue to dance among us.”

A service to celebrate Garth’s life will occur on Saturday, February 16th at 11:00 at First United Church, Ottawa.
