Bold Witness, Relentless Grace: November 4-6, 2022

An Invitation from Vicki McPhee, Chinook Winds Region Presider & Minister @ Symons Valley United Church, Calgary.

I want to invite you to a special event that is taking place this fall at Symons Valley United Church, Bold Witness, Relentless Grace, from November 4-6, 2022.

Bold Witness refers to how we, the people of God, make known that God’s love is embracing and inclusive. And Relentless Grace speaks to how we can keep showing up and trying to do what’s right, even when we don’t have all the answers or get things precisely right all the time. God offers us grace relentlessly, so we offer one another and ourselves that same grace and keep showing up.

Our keynote speaker is Canadian lay theologian and noted author Sarah Bessey. Sarah’s books include Miracles and Other Reasonable Things (Symons Valley Church read this book as a Lenten study this year, and it was a much-appreciated read), Jesus Feminist, A Rhythm of Prayer, and Out of Sorts.

We will also hear from local leaders providing a bold witness in and around the region. Jake Pernis and Tony Snow will share their experience of how Grace Presbyterian Church responded to the discovery of unmarked graves on the grounds of former Residential Schools. Monetta Bailey will be speaking about her work of addressing social inequalities, particularly concerning racialized and immigrant individuals. Keith Murray will be sharing his work within the LGBTQ2S+ community.

YYC Food Trucks will be onsite Saturday, or you can go for lunch at the nearby Creekside shopping area. Sarah’s books will be available for sale during the event.

For more information and details, please visit https://www.boldwitness.ca/. Tickets are $100 for the event. If cost is a barrier to attending, don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

I hope you can join us for this wonderful opportunity to hear how God is moving in our world.
