Kasota East Camp & Samson United Church partner for Indigenous Campership Fund

Kasota East Camp has been approved by The United Church of Canada Healing Fund, to establish an Indigenous Campership Fund for registering Indigenous, Metis and Inuit campers to attend summer camp programs in Summer 2022. Kasota East Camp is working in partnership with Samson United Church / Central Alberta Spirituality Circle.

This fund will cover the cost of registering Indigenous, Metis and Inuit campers who want to come to camp! As well, it will support Kasota East Camp to build relationships with Indigenous Elders to improve Kasota East Camp’s Indigenous knowledge and actions of reconciliation.
There are about 30 camper spots available. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2022.

To Apply: for referral by Samson United Church / Central Alberta Spiritual Circle, please contact: Mosom Russel Burns at 403-785-5180 or via email.

Thank you to Russel Burns who will also serve as Oskapew (Elder Helper) for engaging Elders

Kasota East Camp is located on the shores of Sylvan Lake about 9 km northwest of the town of Sylvan Lake. It is affiliated with the United Church’s Chinook Winds Region and is accredited through both the Alberta Camping Association and United Church Camps. Summer camps emphasize self-esteem, team building, leadership and communication skills, environmental stewardship, and spiritual exploration opportunities. Examples of activities include canoeing, archery, swimming, crafts, field activities, daily reflections, and performing.

Samson United Church, Maskwacis, is in the process of establishing an outreach Ministry encompassing rural and urban Indigenous peoples throughout Central Alberta (including Edmonton and Red Deer), to be called the Central Alberta Spirituality Circle. This opportunity provides a meaningful and tangible project, as this new approach to ‘Community of Faith’ is launched in the coming months!
