St. Andrew’s United Church Council, Cochrane recently approved being part of a local Helping Hands Society project to set up a Free Food Shed, that will complement Cochrane’s Food Bank.
The intent is that donations not normally accepted by the Food Bank such as fresh produce from private gardens, food expiring within four months, be made available to the Community. St. Andrew’s Council felt this initiative would fit well with the congregation’s successful lunch program, both instilling a sense of caring for your neighbours.
Local businesses have volunteered time and materials to build and electrically service the shed. St. Andrew’s will cover power costs and lose one parking stall. The Food Shed will be available 24/7 for both donations and pick up. St. Andrew’s, as Cochrane’s only downtown church, looks forward to supporting Helping Hands, their volunteers and the community at large through this project.
