Generosity overcomes COVID-19 limitations

By Mary Shearer

Five years ago, Ralph Connor Memorial United, Canmore, cooperated with the Stoney Nakoda to host a Christmas Feast on the Morley Reserve. COVID-19 appeared to put an end to this in 2020. However, eight churches in the Bow Valley and Calgary teamed up to raise funds for the most needy families. Elders received a prayer shawl and a $150 gift certificate that made their Christmas.

The original target was 20 families. We were overwhelmed with cash donations of over $10,000 and many prayer shawls. Seventy Indigenous families across Chinook Winds were reached on three reserves as well as urban Indigenous in both Calgary and Lethbridge.  Photo by Gloria Snow used with permission.
